COPYRIGHT & RIGHTS · THE ATTRIBUTION LOOM

The composition has an owner. The evidence has a source.

Pull one thread and see which rights, licence and attribution route travels with it. Public visibility never flattens those differences.

THE ATTRIBUTION LOOM · SELECT A THREAD

One page can contain several different rights states.

The loom is a classification map. It does not decide whether a proposed reuse falls within a statutory exception.

Protection follows authorship, ownership, assignment and licence—not appearance alone.

Copyright may subsist in original page design, prose, code, taxonomies, visual compositions and editorial artwork created by, commissioned for, assigned to or licensed to Achmed Esser.

What this permits or explains
Link and use short attributed references where lawful.
Where the boundary remains
Asset-level provenance, provider terms, third-party rights and statutory exceptions prevail over a general site notice.

THE SITE IN PRACTICE · IMPLEMENTATION TRACE

Attribution is a chain of custody, not a decorative credit line.

The source, rights holder, applicable licence and nature of the new composition remain separate all the way to publication.

01 · Original layer

Prose · code · design · artwork

Rights are asserted only where controlled through authorship, ownership, assignment or licence.

02 · Evidence layer

Facts · records · legislation

03 · Licence layer

Creation year preserved

Current footer year changes; historical object metadata does not.

This rendered route currently carries 1,491 visible words in the Living Sitemap catalogue. Shared navigation and footer text are excluded from that measure.

EVIDENCE-LED DEVELOPMENT · OPEN THE PERIOD

Copyright kept changing because the container kept changing.

Books, photographs, broadcasts, software and networked works entered at different moments. The present argument about machine use continues that history of technological pressure.

1710

The author enters the statute

The Statute of Anne is described by the UK Government’s 2026 report as the first copyright Act, initially protecting printed literary works.

Works and formalities evolve

Copyright legislation expanded across literary and artistic forms. The 1911 Act consolidated protection and removed the general registration requirement for protected material.

The modern UK framework

The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 became the principal UK copyright statute and has since been amended as technology changed.

Government information receives a common licence

The Open Government Licence created a reusable framework for eligible public-sector information while preserving conditions and exclusions.

Copyright and machine development remain contested

The UK Government published a policy report and impact assessment on copyright works used in developing AI systems. It is not an enacted ownership rule for a specific asset; provenance and applicable law still determine the rights position.

The timeline explains development; it does not imply that one date alone determines the law, guidance or duty applicable to a particular situation.

This monitor reports source-route observations. It does not certify that the law is unchanged, that the interpretation is complete or that the site is compliant in every circumstance. A confirmed source variation creates an editorial review task; it never changes the operative statement automatically.

01

Original material

Copyright and, where applicable, database rights may subsist in original material created by, commissioned for, assigned to or licensed to Achmed Esser. Third-party and public-source material retains its own status, and asset-level provenance or provider terms prevail. The site notice is © 2026 Achmed Esser. All rights reserved in material for which those rights are controlled. A historical asset keeps the year recorded with its own edition.

02

Public records and third-party material

Procurement facts, legislation, standards titles, quotations, logos and linked materials may belong to public bodies, standards organisations or other rights holders. Inclusion does not transfer ownership or imply endorsement. Facts are not recast as owned merely because they are selected or visualised.

Crown or public-sector material is used under the applicable source terms only where the source identifies them. The Open Government Licence is not assumed to cover logos, third-party rights, personal data or material expressly excluded by its information provider.

03

Standards, names and marks

Standards pages provide publicly describable context and professional interpretation; they do not reproduce protected standards, constitute certification or replace licensed copies from the issuing body. Names, logos and marks remain with their respective owners. Reference to a company, product or institution does not imply affiliation.

04

Editorial artwork and media

Artwork is an editorial visual interpretation unless expressly labelled documentary. Source records determine the subject and composition note; the image does not claim to show the actual people, place or event. Tool and provider terms may add contractual conditions without transferring rights in third-party source material.

05

Database and compilation rights

Copyright can protect an original selection or arrangement, while sui generis database right can protect database contents only where the statutory investment and eligibility conditions are met. No database right is claimed merely because information appears in a grid, archive or visualisation. Source licences, public-sector information rules and third-party rights continue item by item.

06

Reuse and licensing enquiries

Linking and short attributed reference are welcome where lawful. For material whose relevant rights are controlled by Achmed Esser, reproduction of a complete artwork, page, code component, dataset presentation or substantial part requires prior written permission unless an applicable licence or statutory exception permits it. A proposed use should identify the exact work, format, audience, territory, duration and commercial context.

07

Rights concern and notice

A rights holder can identify the URL, material, claimed right, basis of the concern and a safe contact route. Do not send unnecessary identity documents. A credible notice will be acknowledged and reviewed; access may be restricted while ownership, licence, exception or attribution is checked. A restriction is not an admission of infringement.
